Mountain State
Miniature Golf
|
|
|
"The best miniature golf course
you'll ever play."
[We wouldn't say that ourselves,
as it sounds a tad bold;
but if they want to, well...]
Tis a great book, by the way - click on the title for more info.

Burning Rock
Off-Road Park

One hundred miles of
world-class riding trails for ATVs and motorcycles, just minutes from Beckley.

|
The New River Gorge
|
|
|
|
The National Park Service site
for the nationally protected river. A natural wonder spanned by a man-made wonder - the
New River Gorge Bridge. We have a lot of great parks in the area, all worth a visit, but this is the greatest.
[And the town of Fayetteville, nearby, has some fun places to eat!]
Click here if you'll be around the end of October
for ... Bridge Day!
And click here to learn about other
West Virginia parks.

If you're going to hike, climb, slide, or camp in the gorge area, Water Stone
is the place to start.

Beckley's finest Italian dining,
but - more importantly -
the best pizza in town!!
It's a very nice restaurant,
so order one to go if you're
feeling casual.

Holley's Kountry Korner
|
|
Holley's continues the home-cooking tradition. It's about 10 miles from Beckley,
but if you want classic country food this is the place. They're particularly proud of their biscuits and pies.
Head north on the Turnpike [I-77/64] to Exit 54. Stay right and watch for Holley's on the right.
Open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day. You can call 'em at 304/877-6900.

Mystery Hole
|
|
|
|
Nostalgically strange and
a little out of the way, but if you’re headed up Rt. 60 towards Hawks Nest Park [a great road to experience hairpin mountain turns at high elevations!] it’s
certainly worth checking out.

|
Whitewater Rafting
|
|
|
|
Your trip doesn't have to be this exciting - but it can be! All the companies are great
[in fact, your guide will probably be more important than the company, since that's the person you'll spend
all day in a raft with!] but we've linked to Class VI simply because the buffet dinner at their Smokeys on
the Gorge is excellent. [You don't have to raft with them to eat there, either!]

you just know the thing you've been looking for all these years could be around the next corner ... or
the next one after that.

Cass Scenic Railroad
|
|
|
|
Most of the eastern US forests
were shaved bald of trees by the early 20th Century. Praise God trees grow back! Cass is a unique state park
in a beautiful part of the state, exploring the history of logging in West Virginia while allowing you to ride the original Shay trains
through the mountains. It's a little distance from Beckley, but it's a nice drive and the experience is well worth
the effort.

Need a place to stay?
All these properties are conveniently located at Exit 44 of the
West Virginia Turnpike;
I-77/I-64. All have great reputations and are well-run
locations.
[We left out the one built on the old gypsy burial ground - those ancient curses just play havoc with getting a good night's sleep!]
